About the event

The Florida Shape Off is a yearly contest/exhibition that takes place at the Orlando Surf Expo in January.  Six surfboard shapers replicate a sample board in two hours time; the surfboard that closest matches the sample board wins.

The purpose of the Shape Off is to promote the art and craft of hand-made surfboard making as well as to honor the shapers for their contribution to surfing since without them to design and make the boards, there would be no sport of surfing as we know it today.

Every year, a different theme is selected which decides which shapers to ask for their participation. The contest takes place throughout the last two days of the Surf Expo, with the judging and award taking place on the last day.
